Dr. Peter Chang was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He moved to the United States at age 13 and has come to call New England his second home. After medical school, Dr. Chang pursued a 2-year Clinical Research Fellowship in Uveitis and Ocular Immunology under the mentorship of Dr. C Stephen Foster, and he served as the Chief Research Fellow from 2009 to 2010. During his senior year, he was elected by faculty and peers to be the Administrative Chief Resident. Dr. Chang then completed fellowship training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, where he was named Fellow of the Year.

Dr. Chang joined Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution (MERSI) as a Partner in July of 2016 and became its Co-President in January 2021. His clinical expertise includes routine and complex cataract surgery, ocular inflammatory diseases, and vitreoretinal disorders. He has authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed publications, and also is a co-editor of Uveitis: A Quick Guide to Essential Diagnosis.

In his free time, Dr. Chang enjoys playing the Beethoven piano sonatas and Chopin ballades, savoring Tuscan and Burgundian wines, as well as traveling domestically and internationally with his wife and two kids. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
