Peter Y. Chang, MD, FACS

Partner and Co-President

Dr. Chang was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. At the age of 13, he moved to the United States and has since come to consider New England his second home. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Brown University in 2004 and a Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine in 2008.
 
Following medical school, Dr. Chang pursued a two-year Clinical Research Fellowship in Uveitis and Ocular Immunology under Dr. C. Stephen Foster. During this fellowship, he served as the Chief Research Fellow from 2009 to 2010. After completing his medical internship at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA, he moved to Manhattan to train in Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. In his senior year, he held the position of Administrative Chief Resident.
 
Dr. Chang then completed fellowship training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago, where he was honored as Fellow of the Year. In the fall of 2016, he returned to Boston and joined MERSI as a Partner. By 2021, he became the co-president of MERSI.
 
Throughout his career, Dr. Chang has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and co-edited “Uveitis: A Quick Guide to Essential Diagnosis.” He has been recognized as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly (2021 – present) and Boston Magazine (2022 – present). In 2023, Newsweek selected him as one of the top 200 ophthalmologists in the United States.
 
In his free time, Dr. Chang enjoys cooking, biking, traveling with his family, and playing piano works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Chopin.
